Goodwood Baptist Church was established in 1876. It is a beautiful Bible-believing and Bible-practising church, with a congregational tapestry woven from many walks of life. Sunday mornings are rich and meaningful as we seek to worship God with our hearts in a manner befitting His majesty.
We want you to know that God’s love for you is real.
We would invite and encourage you to listen to and discover God and His plans for your life, wherever you find yourself in this life’s journey.
In a world of shifting landscapes and mounting uncertainties, our hope is that you will find comfort by standing on the permanent solid ground found only in the truth of God and His Word.
We are located 1 hour northeast of downtown Toronto, in the hamlet of Goodwood, ON, surrounded by the rolling farmlands of the north Durham region. Whether you are new to the area, one of our existing neighbours or simply travelling through the region, our doors are open and we sincerely invite you to worship God with us at Goodwood Baptist Church.

Goodwood Baptist Church Doctrinal Statement
The Bible
We believe the Bible to be the complete Word of God; that the sixty-six books, as originally written, comprising the Old and New Testaments, were verbally inspired by the Spirit of God and were entirely free from error; that the Word of God is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice and the true basis of Christian union.
There are many translations today and as a church we hold to using a translation that is complete and doctrinally founded such as: King James Version, New King James Version, English Standard Version and New American Standard Version.

God – The Father
We believe in one God; Creator of all, holy, sovereign, eternal, existing in three equal Persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The triune God is equal in every divine perfection and executing distinct but harmonious office in the work of redemption.

Jesus Christ – The Son
We believe in the absolute and essential deity of Jesus Christ, in His eternal existence with the Father in pre-incarnate glory, in His virgin birth, sinless life, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, triumphant ascension, mediatorial ministry and personal return. He is both the Son of Man and Son of God.

The Holy Spirit
We believe in the absolute and essential deity and personality of the Holy Spirit, Who convinces of sin, righteousness and of judgement; and Who regenerates, sanctifies, illuminates and comforts those who believe in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit being God, was active in creation and an active agent of the new birth.

Satan
We believe that Satan exists as an evil personality, the originator of sin, the archenemy of God and man and is destined to suffer the judgment of eternal justice in the lake of fire.

Man
We believe that man was divinely created in the image of God as stated in the Genesis account; that he sinned, becoming guilty before God, resulting in total depravity, thereby incurring physical and spiritual death.

Salvation
We believe that salvation is by the sovereign, electing grace of God; that by the appointment of the Father, Christ voluntarily suffered death on the cross as payment for our sins. We are justified by faith alone, in the all-sufficient sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and that those whom God has called shall be sealed by the Holy Spirit and finally perfected in the image of the Lord.

Future Things
We believe in the personal, bodily and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ; in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust; in the eternal blessedness of the redeemed and in the judgement and conscious, eternal punishment of the wicked.

The Local Church
We believe that a church is a company of immersed believers, called out from the world, separated unto the Lord Jesus; voluntarily associated for the ministry of the Word, the mutual edification of its members, the propagation of the faith and the observance of the ordinances. We believe it is a sovereign, independent, autonomous body, in association with other like-minded churches, exercising its own divinely awarded gifts, precepts and privileges under the Lordship of Christ, the Great Head of the church. We believe that its officers are pastor (male) and elders/deacons (male).

The Lord’s Day
We believe that the first day of the week is the Lord’s day and that, in a special sense, it is the divinely appointed day for worship and spiritual exercise.
Ordinances
We believe that there are only two ordinances for the church which are regularly observed in the New Testament, in the following order:
- Baptism, which is the immersion of the believer in water, whereby he obeys Christ’s command and sets forth his identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection.

- The Lord’s Supper, which is the memorial wherein the believer partakes of the two elements, bread and juice, which symbolize the Lord’s body and shed blood, proclaiming His death until He comes.

Election – Security of Believers
We believe that all who are truly born again are kept by God the Father for Jesus Christ.
John 10:28-29; Romans 8:23, 35-39; Ephesians 4:30; Philippians 1:6; Jude 1:24
The Church and State
We believe in the entire separation of church and state.
Mark 12:17; Acts 5:29; Romans 13:1-7; Philippians 2:10-11
Civil Government
We believe that civil government is of divine appointment for the interest and good order of society and are to be prayed for. They are to be conscientiously honoured and obeyed, except in the things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who is the only Lord of the conscience and Prince of kings of the earth.
